Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday at Benue Peoples House in Makurdi swore in 11 new permanent secretaries comprising eight men and three women.
He urged them to entrench the principles of civil service and good governance as well as shun compromise in the discharge of their duties.
The governor said as major components in the engine of government, the role of permanent secretaries could not be overemphasised.
He stressed the need for them to ensure the smooth running of the machinery of government by been guided by the saying that “to whom much is given, much is expected in return.
”
The new permanent secretaries have yet to be assigned portfolios.
Ortom said the quality of service that would be delivered by this government would be measured on a daily basis and that the permanent secretaries must join hands to develop the state.
He said, “I had cause to lead our people in dedicating Benue State to God on May 30, this year.
That symbolic act is to draw us closer to God for Him to cleanse the land, to bless Benue and break down the shackles of development.
“For those in leadership positions, you must take special note of the core value of our administration. I expect you to apply the best tenets of the civil service in your roles because you have been chosen out of many others that are qualified because I believe that you will live up to the expectations of your office as well as stand out as role models in your private and public life.
”
He said their appointments resulted from a careful selection based on merit, professionalism and proven track records of service to the state.
The governor called for the cooperation and support of Benue people, particularly members of the state executive council and other senior government officials for the new permanent secretaries to enable them to succeed in their new role.
Responding on behalf of others, Mrs. Atom Helen, pledged that she and her colleagues would work hard to deliver quality service that would move Benue forward.
