THE 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has denied an allegation that soldiers of the Brigade posted to Etekwuru junction, Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of the state killed an apprentice, Declan Obi (26).
The Brigade said in a statement made available to Southern City News on Sunday and signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Haruna Tagwai, that preliminary investigation revealed that the incident never occurred.
It further stated that the Brigade had since 11.00am on Thursday, June 23, 2016, on receipt of the information, quickly dispatched some of its senior officers to the Ohaji/Egbema Council Area to ascertain the allegation raised against the soldiers and forestall the breakdown of law and order.
The statement also indicated that the Brigade recalled to the barracks soldiers posted to the area for thorough questioning over the alleged incident.
Tagwai appealed to the people of the state to remain calm and go about their normal businesses while assuring them that any personnel of the Brigade found culpable would be made to face the wrath of the law.
