The National Headquarters of the Non-Academic Staff of Universities has dissolved its Obafemi Awolowo University’s Chapter.
This was contained in a letter exclusively obtained by our correspondent late Wednesday.
The letter tittled ‘Dissolution of NASU, OAU Branch Committee’, was dated June 21, 2016 with ref number NASU/UV/5/Vol.XVII/102.
In the letter signed by the National General Secreatary of NASU , Peters Adeyemi, executives of the OAU branch were accused of disobedience to the constitution of the association.
According to the letter, the decision to dissolve came after executives of NASU-OAU refused to yield to warnings.
The letter, which was confirmed to be authentic by the national secretariat of NASU on the telephone reads, “Please refer to the meeting you held with the General Secretary on Thursday, 16th June, 2016 at the NASU Headquarters Liason Office on the crisis situation at the OAU, Ile-Ife Osun State.
“I am surprised that despite your plea for leniency of the Headquarters for embarking on protest and industrial action without NEC express permission, you have continued upto the date hereon.
“In accordance with Rule 22 (1&5c) of NASU constitution therefore, the OAU Branch Committee is dissolved with effect from 20th June 2016 over persistent violation of the content of the Constitution.
“You are further directed to hand-over all NASU properties in your care to the National Secretary immediately.”
Earlier, members of NASU OAU had embarked on a continuous protest and strike since June 6.
They noted that the protest and strike was to enable the university authorities accede to their demands.
Among the demands were cancellation of the appointment of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ayobami Salami; payment of allowances and probing of the outgoing VC of the university, Prof. Bamitale Omole.
The suspension came barely 24 hours to the closure of the university by its authorities.
