Serena Williams Bags 22nd Grand Slam Title, Equals Wimbledon Record

Serena Williams has won her seventh Wimbledon title which amounts to a total of 22 major Grand slam titles with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Angelique Kerber on Saturday in London.

The world no 1 got stuck on 21 Grand Slams since winning last year’s Wimbledon. However, she stepped into the All England Club to retain the title and draw level with Steffi Graf’s Open era record.

Her friends, power couple, Beyonce and Jay-Z were in the crowd at the Centre Court to show support to the star.

An excited Serena said, “It’s a great feeling to be here. Angelique brings out great tennis in me,” adding, “It’s been incredibly difficult not to think about it.

It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked hard for it. This court definitely feels like home, I have a match later today in the doubles, so I’ll be back out.

Kerber, acknowledging Serena’s victory, notated that the vivacious athlete was indeed a great champion.

“Serena you deserve it, you are a great champion and great person.

We played a great match. “It’s an honour to play on Centre Court and a great feeling.”

Williams has almost equalled Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
